Valuing Women and Families

I am proud to have the endorsement of Planned Parenthood and through this campaign have become aware of just how important the issues that effect women’s health are in Pennsylvania. The issues involved are complex, but I am a "pro-family" candidate for the following reasons:
- I am a firm believer that a woman's right to choose must be protected and maintained. Women must be afforded the ability to make decisions about their health and the Constitution guarantees this and I would fight any efforts to undo Roe vs. Wade.
- We must have access to birth control for women and fertility treatments that are honored by insurance providers.
- I favor pre-natal care and paid family leave that will allow families to make the kinds of choices that allow people to maintain their careers and still put their families first.
- We need access to affordable childcare so women and men can continue their careers while still caring for their families.

Just because I am a Democrat does not mean that I do not value families. We must do everything we can to honor the importance of families and the government can do its part to provide families with access to services that will allow people to make choices that will benefit their children. It is not enough to be defined as pro-choice or pro-life, but rather we are defined by how we care for each other and the kinds of families we nurture as a society and culture. You may or may not agree with me on abortion, but we can all work together to make each and every family have worth and honor each and every child with the gift of opportunity and the dignity of equality.
